Screw Jack
A screw jack, also known as a mechanical jack, is a device that uses a screw-nut assembly as the lifting mechanism, driven by manual force through a screw-nut transmission. Standard screw jacks rely on the self-locking action of the threads to support loads. They feature a simple construction but exhibit low transmission efficiency and slow return travel. Self-lowering screw jacks lack self-locking threads and incorporate a brake mechanism. Releasing the brake allows the load to descend rapidly under its own weight, significantly reducing return travel time. However, this design is more complex. Capable of sustained load support, screw jacks now achieve maximum lifting capacities of 100 tons and see widespread application. When fitted with a horizontal screw at the base, they can also perform short-distance lateral movement of heavy objects.
